Many of the print settings available in Excel are by default specific to an individual work sheet. These settings include orientation, margins, headers and footers. These types of settings are specified in the Page Layout Tab - Page Set Up group. This can create flexibility in your Excel work book presentations, for example you can have your first sheet in landscape with a margin of 10 centimeters and your second sheet in portrait with a margin of 5 centimeters with no need to reset any settings between the worksheets. It is important to note that any new work sheets that are added to the work book will take default the Excel settings. If you are adding sheets to your work books that require specific settings of margins, headers, footers and orientation then manually changing each new work sheet as it is added can be time consuming and difficult to get everything exactly matching.
Home-school worksheets are vital adjuncts to effective teaching. They allow students to test their knowledge and offer a practical edge to learning. In addition, when used properly, worksheets provide immediate feedback to students and evaluation of a child has progress to parents. Worksheets also free up the time of parents who are teaching multiple children so the parent can give each student individual attention. Despite traditional notions that worksheets are only for math, this article informs parents that worksheets are not just for math but can enhance learning in many other courses. Parents should make use of these teaching and learning aids to enhance their child has learning experience.
Teachers are actually doing their best to educate children. The problems with education are not so much on the level of teachers as with the institution as a whole. It is kind of like the state of communications in our country before the deregulation of the telephone companies. Before deregulation, one and only one advancement--the touch tone phone. After deregulation, well you have cell phones, the Internet, instant messaging, you name it! What dedicated teachers and parents need to do is to supplement public school instruction with strategies that work, that have always worked, to get kids to really master the fundamental skills of elementary math. Which brings us to the purpose behind this article. One of the most effective ways I have found to help kids in a focused area of weakness are printable math worksheets. The big problem with concept-based instruction is lack of practice. Printable math worksheets solve this problem nicely.
Completed worksheets which include word banks can be checked by fellow students using the answer key. Cloze worksheets testing grammar require more knowledgeable reviewers since there may be numerous acceptable answers. The bird flew ______________. Quickly, slowly, clumsily, swiftly, etc are all acceptable adverbs describing how the bird flew. The font size can be reduced to 12 points. Longer paragraphs are appropriate with blanks scattered throughout the reading selection. Including a section of multiple choice questions to test comprehension or including spaces for writing the main idea and the supporting details are ways to further the learning objectives and provide variety for the learner.
Look for ways to make math fun. That might sound ridiculous to some people who grew up in a different era, but the truth is, children love to play games and learn. If you can incorporate some type of fun into the learning process, you may be surprised to find that your child is learning at the same time he or she is smiling and having a good time. Consider how much better you yourself learn and comprehend things when you are interested in a subject or enjoying yourself during an activity. The same logic applies to helping a child to learn a new skill or set of facts.
There are some new materials being developed now based on what we are learning about how the brain learns. These brain-friendly materials should be an improvement over what has existed. I recently bought a book by Marcia L. Tate titled "Mathematics Worksheets Do not Grow Dendrites." I highly recommend her book. She gives a great deal of information on alternative activities that are better for your child has brain development and for learning. No matter what materials you choose, it is most important that you supervise your child constantly so that mistakes get caught rather than practiced. I learned this particular lesson the hard way. When my daughter was young, she did something that needed "attention." I no longer remember what it was that she did, but I told her to write the sentence "I will not disobey my parents again" 50 times.
