Cloze worksheets are also known as "Fill in the Blank" worksheets. Words are deleted from a prose sentence or passage and the reader is required to fill in the blanks. Cloze tests or exercises require the ability to understand context and vocabulary in order to select correct words for completion. Given the right design, these worksheets can be used at all levels of literacy. A search on the term "cloze generator" will find software programs which create cloze worksheets by randomly deleting words from a passage you enter. If, on the other hand, you would like to design the worksheet yourself, here are some tips for doing so.
Know the author is background. This person needs to have a background in education and, ideally, should be trained in the latest educational methods, like brain-based teaching/learning. I personally would never use any materials with my child that did not specifically mention being brain-based. I am not talking about just research-based. I see more and more sites claiming to have research-based materials, but what I find is definitely NOT based on how the brains actually learns. Brain-based learning is relatively new in the educational world, but most worksheet sites and materials are using old science or, more often, no science at all.
So with skip counting, you get the perfecta of seeing, feeling and hearing. You experience the numbers in three ways. And it can be fun. If you teach your child to count, say, playing cards by twos, not only will s/he count the cards faster, but s/he will lock in the two-times tables in his/her head without having to stare at boring worksheets, watch or do any of those typical dumbing-down activities like watch cartoons teach them math, sing inane songs, or listen to baby-rhymes.One of the advantages of using normal playing cards (not flash-cards or cards from some contrived kiddie-math games) is that playing cards can remain life-long friends. They are objects that exist in the adult world, so your child will not have that feeling in the back of his/her mind that they are being pandered to. Children can sense when their minds are being respected. When you teach them with methods that respect and foster their thinking abilities, instead of talking down to them, you are doing them one of the biggest favors you can do. You are also doing one for yourself, too.
Look for ways to make math fun. That might sound ridiculous to some people who grew up in a different era, but the truth is, children love to play games and learn. If you can incorporate some type of fun into the learning process, you may be surprised to find that your child is learning at the same time he or she is smiling and having a good time. Consider how much better you yourself learn and comprehend things when you are interested in a subject or enjoying yourself during an activity. The same logic applies to helping a child to learn a new skill or set of facts.
Microsoft Excel Worksheets have built-in events that can run visual basic code based on certain action taken by the user within that specific worksheet. These worksheet events allow the users of Microsoft Excel to run code after activating a worksheet or before deactivating a worksheet. These events also allow users the ability to run a code every time a user changes data within a cell or selects a new range of cells. Newer versions of Excel have even created events that allow code to be run when tables and pivot tables are updated or refreshed.
If you do want to produce your own worksheets and do not have the Microsoft software, you can download free tools like OpenOffice or use an online word processor or spreadsheet such as the free Google Docs which help you do similar tasks. You just need to create a table with as many rows and columns as you need and then type in some numbers before printing it off for your children to practice - depending on the level of complexity choose single digits or multiple digits. If you are not sure what level to start at, aim low, start with easy numbers and see how your child goes, the self-esteem boost they will get from acing the first worksheet will give them confidence for more difficult math problems.
