Multiplication tables are a great way to break into teaching multiplication. The five times tables and other small numbers prove easier to teach most elementary school students. Students will find it easy to just keep adding another digit to their last result to find the next number in the time tables. By teaching this first, you can get the students in the mood and comfortable with multiplying. The problems may occur, however, once you have reached a higher times tables than five. The trick of simply adding another digit to the last result, to find the next number in the table becomes much more difficult.

Most of even beginning algebra depends on being able to do two things--one, doing multiplication quickly and accurately in your head, two, knowing how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions. You might remember a concept in algebra called factoring. Factoring means breaking up into parts that are multiplied together to give you the whole. You can factor numbers. For instance, 6 factors into 2 and 3--2x3 =6. In elementary algebra we learn to factor expressions such as x^2+4x+4. This particular expression is easily factor-able into (x+2)^2. If this does not make any sense to you, do not worry about it. Just trust me, if you do not know your multiplication tables, you can not factor. If you can not factor, you will not do well at all in algebra, geometry, or trigonometry.

These worksheets had puns or puzzle questions at the top, and as the students worked the problems they were given some kind of code for choosing a letter to match that answer. If they worked the problems correctly, the letters eventually answered the pun or riddle. Students enjoyed these worksheets, but there are a couple problem areas even with these worksheets. Some students would get the answer to the riddle early and then work backward from letter to problem answer, so they were not learning or practicing anything.

Never allow boredom to set in. We know now that when learning is fun and exciting, the brain is actually growing many new dendrites that make connections with many other dendrites. The more connections the better. We also know now that boredom destroys dendrites. Small children quickly become bored with worksheets, especially skill and drill worksheets. Yet another reason to avoid skill and drill worksheets like the plague. Never allow your child to use a worksheet unsupervised. Some parents use worksheets to provide time to fix supper or add another load of laundry. Unfortunately, while you are not looking, your child just might have practiced a mistake several times. The time you thought you saved is not nearly as much time as it will take to fix that mistake.

Learning basic multiplication facts is a challenge for many students. Students need to memorize basic facts so they will be able to answer them quickly when solving advanced math problems. Students that do not memorize basic multiplication and division facts often struggle with math in the higher grades. So how do you motivate kids to learn their basic math facts? Simply reciting facts or practicing with flashcards is not enough to get kids excited to learn. Instead, try some hands-on games that make learning math facts more fun! Game: Multiplication Draw. Number of players: 2 or more. Materials: A deck of 52 playing cards; Blank paper & pencil for scoring. Each number card is worth face value. Jacks, queens, and kings are worth 10, 11, and 12 respectively. Aces are worth 1.To play the game, shuffle the deck of cards. Player 1 picks two cards from the top of the deck. He will then multiply the cards together. For example, if player 1 drew a queen and a 3, he would multiply 11 and 3 to get 33 points. Each player takes turns drawing two cards, multiplying them, and writing their products on the score sheet.When the the last card in the deck is drawn, players add the products on the score sheet. The player with the highest score in the winner.

Once you picked your goal. You have to realize there will be obstacles on your way towards the goal. The next step is to list some of the potential dangers or obstacles. On a road trip you know at some point in time you will end up in traffic jam, which is not your fault. You have take into account for such events. The journey to your goal there will be people who say you can not accomplish your goal because you do not have the experience. These are some of traffic jams you have to go through. A goal setting worksheet can address this issue by writing down any potential obstacles. Now I am not trying to be negative, but this little step right here can determine your success or failure.
